Easee is a fast-growing Norwegian company established in 2018 to develop innovative charging and power management technology solutions. Easee develops, designs, and manufactures its products in Scandinavia and currently exports them to 17 countries in Europe. With an increasing amount of data sources and volume, coupled with increasing demand for insight into both administrative and operational processes, there was a high need for an efficient data platform with fit-for-purpose tools.
Many requirements and factors to consider.
The data platform requirements in Easee are quite complex and mixed. Some processes need automation, standardization, and governance, but others require more customization and coding. There is a mix of all types of data, big and small, fast and slow, structured and unstructured.
Some of the high-level requirements and factors:
• high and increasing data volumes
• need for automation to handle data integration and ingestion
• need for a powerful processing engine to handle logic and data transformations
• need for reverse etl
• more...
Easee chose AWS for the data platform cloud infrastructure, and after testing various storage options Databricks was chosen for storage and processing, Xpert BI for certain data ingestion and ‘reverse ETL’ tasks, dbt for the ‘T’ in ELT and Tableau as the visualization tool.
Easee is using the ‘Move & Share’ module of Xpert BI which does not include the end-to-end data warehouse experience, but only ingest and export. It was especially the reverse ETL i.e. data export features that supported Databricks as the required data source. With simple configurations, data from Databricks is exported to Visma Net (API), and soon to SalesForce (API). Xpert BI is also used for data ingest from ZenDesk into Databricks.
